Your First Custom Map

This part is a progressive tutorial, mainly written for people who are coming into contact with making Ballance maps in Blender for the first time. By following this tutorial, you will be able to create your very first custom map, step by step.

Before We Start

The reason it is called "progressive" is that the tutorial part aims to achieve step-by-step guidance, a gradual progression, and instant feedback, making it easier for newcomers to get started with mapping and easier to keep their interest in it. But note that even a progressive tutorial will not explain and demonstrate every operational detail exhaustively. If you encounter an operation you cannot follow, please check the relevant tutorials on other pages of this manual, or ask other experienced mappers around you.

Before starting the tutorial, please be sure to read Tools Installation and Configuration, and make sure the plugin and the asset library are available. The tutorial will no longer cover plugin configuration.

If you have no concept of Blender at all, you can also read Basic Blender Operations first. But this document also explains many fairly basic operations, so you don't need to think you must master Blender thoroughly before starting the mapping tutorial. Getting hands-on as soon as possible is what creates the motivation and sense of achievement to keep learning.

The progressive tutorial consists of the following chapters:

Each sector of the map produced by this progressive tutorial represents a major mapping-related technique. Mappers do not need to strictly follow the order given by the tutorial to make their own maps. On the contrary, for mappers with strong learning ability, we recommend focusing on the parts you want to see and getting a map out quickly.
